New Hope was supposed to be exactly that; a new hope for the supernatural community where humans and nonhumans alike would be able to live in peace, no secret being made as to the natural of the nonhumans. For a short while the city-town was successful; magic protected and cloaked a 20-mile radius. Humans lived side-by-side with vampires, witches, shapeshifters, and wereanimals.
But then about 5 years into the experiment something happened. We’re not quite sure if the humans took over by force, a corrupted human mayor took over, or if something else happened… but whatever happened doesn’t matter. What matters is that 60 years later the humans run New Hope and nonhumans are merely lower-class inhabitants. We are treated with disdain, revulsion, and scorn; a slew of harsh laws govern our lives. Curfew; businesses can choose to let us enter their place or work there; we aren’t even allowed to leave New Hope unless it’s with express permission from the government.
Bounty hunters were a byproduct of the turnaround. They serve two purposes - catch lawbreaking nons, and hunt down the nonhumans in the outside world supposedly for protection of humans outside. Really it’s just to imprison as many of us as possible in this city, since there are deterrents in place to prevent any nonhuman from escaping New Hope.
Humans as a whole have no idea that we, or New Hope, exist. They believe fantasy creatures are mere fairy tales, and that’s how the government plans to keep it. Anyone who tries to spill the secret to the outside world is blackmailed or killed and the potential leak covered up.
But there’s only so much suppression us nons can take. Riots, protests, and demonstrations fill the streets lately. It started out slow, but the movement is gaining momentum and an organization for the resistance is beginning to form. We want our voice and freedom back, and we’ll get it back no matter what. What will you choose?
